Public figure, Steven Barrett MD, sued Darlene Sherrill (private citizen)
because she posted information he didn't like on her website about him
concerning water fluoridation. The original lawsuit is here:
And the decision is here: http://www.rvi.net/~fluoride/decision.htm

Actually, this is a case that protects freedom of expression on the internet, which everyone who posted on this topic (fluoridation) should applaud regardless of which side of the fluoridation issue you find yourself.
Journalists are taught in school that Barrett is an easily accessible source when you want to "balance" any article that reports on any new or different natural or unusual health finding; So it appears to the layperson he is the expert he is not. (Journalists rarely balance new breakthrough drug stories, though) Most journalists don't care about the health issues they write about, they just want to get the job done, get little grief from the editors and advertisers and go home. So controversial issues usually get the "accepted" slant.
Barrett slanders and libels alternative groups and individuals regularly (take a look at his website http://www.quackwatch.com) but he sues people when his feelings are hurt, often settling out of court. This has a chilling effect, especially on freelance journalists who can't afford to defend themselves in court, even when they are right.
Darlene Sherrell should be applauded for stepping up to the plate and
protecting our right to freely express our opinions - especially the few
dentists who get downright nasty, insulting and foul-mouthed when their
fluoridation (or dental amalgam) beliefs are challenged.

Huge congratulations are in order for Darlene Sherrell for her well
deserved victory against one of the most vicious enemies to freedoms
of speech and medical choice ... the infamous Stevie Barrett ... best
known as Doctor Sues!

EXCERPT
"defendant testified that plaintiff cannot name a study demonstrating
the safety of current fluoridation levels, because there is no
scientific method capable of detecting chronic fluoride poisoning in
the full spectrum. Defendant stated that she considers any claim by
plaintiff to the contrary to constitute "bogus consumer advocacy" and
"the big lie," and that plaintiff has abandoned the public in making
such a claim."
"He did not testify that any study demonstrates the safety of current fluoridation levels."
Having spent nearly two years of my life defending myself against
Barrett / Polevoy and his malicious prosecutor Chris Grell ... I admit
to being overjoyed that he was once again defeated. For those watching
this case, the Quacks are not appealing their loss against me ... at
huge expense to me.

Regardless of your particular feelings about this issue, I think your blanket
statement that "most journalists don't care about the health issues they write
about" is grossly unfair and probably unsupportable. I am sure it is possible to
find many instances where journalists have gone out on a limb to present
information that could get them personally into liability issues. And counselor,
as a member of a group of professionals that is not infrequently maligned, I would think you'd be more sensitive to blanket condemnations.
If you truly are a friend of the first amendment, attacking the press--whether freelance or not-- would not be my first priority.
Respectfully,
Steve Bornfeld

GREAT post!
I do love these comments.
Those who don’t agree with him are diagnosed as being delusional.
And his cult members do same!!
Today, he makes his living writing books, and speaking before various groups, in an effort to discredit all manner of alternative therapies, while defending the safety and use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, antibiotics, and
growth hormones in agriculture; mercury in dental fillings; preservatives, artificial colors and flavors, and other synthetic chemicals used in food processing and packaging; nuclear power, electromagnetic fields; genetic engineering; irradiated foods; prescription drugs, useless surgeries, and
killing chemotherapies. He works to deny freedom of choice any matter which might threaten his sponsors . .
QUACKK QUACK QUACK.........
And proclaims out of the others side oof his mouth to be protecting the
public,,,,,,,,,,,,,
He is closely associated with others who share the same agenda, but pass
themselves off as consumer health experts . . .
And the jig is up!
